A man is behind bars after allegedly attacking his dog while in the lobby of a California police department.
According to KTLA, 48-year-old Christian Najera was taken into custody after a police employee saw him abusing a small Chihuahua in the lobby.
The employee said she heard a man yelling and looked at monitors that were recording what was happening in the lobby.
She told authorities that she saw Najera kick the dog several times and then "violently swing it in the air by its leash."
"There was nothing to provoke him. He was by himself," said Capt. Mike Neff, with the South Pasadena Police Department.
Officers arrested Najera in front of the police department on suspicion of felony animal cruelty.
"Very unusual to come into a police station and do it right in the police lobby," Neff said.
The dog was bleeding and was taken to the Pasadena Humane Society, where it is expected to make a full recovery.
He couldn’t wait for the cops to kill it for him?
The dog wasn’t the only one who should have been bleeding.
I have a teacup Chihuahua that was abused to the point where all its ribs had been broken, and it weighed only 2 1/2 pounds when I got it. The poor thing was deathly afraid of everything, most especially women. Strangers were bad enough, but any woman entering the house was pure unrestrained terror. Lots of accidents, iykwim.
It’s taken nearly 2 years, but he’s up to a healthy 4 lbs and no longer comes unglued when someone comes into the house.
