Norway's Opera Software, which makes the popular Opera web browser, said on Wednesday that China's Golden Brick Silk Road investment fund had offered 10.5 billion kroner ($1.2 billion) to buy the company.
Norway fund blacklists China's 'corrupt' ZTE (07 Jan 16) The Opera board unanimously recommended the offer, saying that at 71 kroner per share, it represents a 56-percent premium on the average price over the last 30 days.
The company had made no secret of its desire to find a buyer and its shares were suspended on the Oslo stock exchange on Friday pending an announcement.

I haven’t heard any mention of Opera in 5-8 years.
I don’t think I’ve had it installed on more than one machine.

Crap! I view FR on my phone with Opera mobile. It’s one of the only android browsers left with text wrap feature. I don’t use Chinese software as a general policy.

Not a good sign
These Chinese billionaire investors are busy shoving their money out of their country because they see a big shakeup (purge) comming. The problem with all this is that government of theirs could nationalize and seize these holdings. Huge internal upheaval comming there .
But, several years ago, they opted out of the browser chase, announcing they would henceforth be using a version of WebKit, the rendering engine behind Safari and Chrome. After that, their business story was all hand-waving! It's amusing that the Chinese are getting taken in ...
So, why would anybody continue to use their stuff or depend upon them?

Bummer. But I will continue to use it as it is the best browser that I have found for my droid phone and works great on my macs.
Advice to Norway: Payment in full with Gold, or no deal.
If by popular they mean "least popular", then yes.
