From toy-sized Brussels Griffons to 200-pound Great Danes, thousands of purebred dogs strutting their stuff at this year's Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York, one of the world's most prestigious events for pedigree breeders.
Some 2,700 dogs from more than a dozen countries have entered the competition, which kicked off on Monday. Now in its 140th year, the show is the second-longest continuously running sporting event in the United States after the Kentucky Derby.
'It's the best time of year,' said show spokeswoman Gail Bisher. 'Dogs take over New York.'

Good times, I love this show.
...or as Obama calls it, The Annual Gourmet Dining Show.
Our beloved little Silky Terrier died a couple of years ago, and I still miss him. Those little dogs are so loyal and very territorial.
I always joked that the little dog wouldn't take down an intruder, but an intruder dang sure wouldn't sneak up on us or get in the house without the little dog going crazy.
I love Westminster on TV. Maybe one day I can go in person.
This thread is a nice break from the politics today.

There are several *Crufts* videos, if you want to drown in cute.
As usual, there will be no chance for the Dachshunds.

I had a colleague who bred and showed Persian cats. She used to regale us about the backroom shenanigans of her cat shows ....I wonder if the WDS is like that.
There are seven new breeds competing this go-round.

I’ll have to watch with my beautiful tea-party ‘spirit of Anastasia’ borzoi, Juneau, named after the state capital of Alaska, home state of the great Gov. Palin.
Her blood goes back to Russia and the Czar’s kennel so she hates Bernie Sanders (barks at him on TV) cause he’s a Bolshevik. :-)
GCH Imperious Hamitup Southern Bell
Breed: Bulldog
Best in Show the German Shorthaired Pointer, beautiful mover, beautifully presented.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback (beaten by the Borzoi in the hound group) looked good too.
That was a powerful looking dog too. Some Rhodesians are a little too fine to look like they can take on big game.
