"How big is Oz?"

20 million people in an area about the same size as the 48 contiginous states of the US.

Look, Australia does produce significant pollution per person and there are steps being taken to try and address that. But because of our fairly small population and our relative isolation, it doesn't really have that much of an international impact.

People should be considering land area and location as well as mere pollution factors. The same thing applies for the US - huge land area. Which is really more damaging - the pollution caused by 300 million Americans spread across most of an entire continent? Or that, of say, any western European country confined into very small geographical areas.

I'm an Aussie (and this is my first post on Free Republic - I'm a veteran of the first Gulf War and yesterday the 'Iraq was better off under Saddam garbage' finally got too much for me. I've been reading for a while, now I've decided I might post a bit) and I'll admit we've got some work to do on pollution but just talking about emissions per person is really warping things.

Same here. In fact even the “Born On” dates are wrong for some of us. I had one from first registration, the DB went FUBAR and ended up with a new later date. People like you and I (pre-registration) may have been on the Whitewater Board a year or so before registration became mandatory.

Can’t do it. There was a database change and a lot of early material can only be gotten at via The Wayback Machine, unless something has changed.

Colin Powell, Why Memorials Matter

3 of 3
Family Guy to ghostrider

I was originally against a 911 memorial because I felt that it would be a monument to the terrorists, but I've changed my mind and I believe that it is critically important to keep the importance of fighting terrorism fresh in the minds of the people. Memorials are important and a WWII memorial is long overdue.

I’ve been trying all afternoon to get in. Is it just me, or are others having trouble too? Thanks!

Could not find my first post.

The subject had to do with Sarah Palin’s hacked email account and David Kernell.

Did find this link 3 days after I registered, using google. I am sure I posted one the day I registered.

PAPERS: US AND BRITAIN TO STRIKE TERROR CAMPS ‘WITHIN DAYS

9/29/2001, 7:27:36 PM · 10 of 138

Pilgrim’s Progress to litany_of_lies
I appreciate the fact that “our” country is showing restraint in the area of broadcasting our intentions. In the military, we had a phrase “need to know basis” - and if I am not directly involved in the planning or the performance of that plan - I am content to trust those that are.
These other countries are doing more toward alerting the enemy and I shudder to think of how many of our boys will die as a result of their LEAKS.

I’ve been a member since 11/30/1998 . . . gone is a series I did on a crazy guy named Ted Tanner who rode his horse from Illinois to the Washington Monument to protest Bill Clinton - I met him at the monument and interviewed him.

“the line is “everybody’s shot” not “been shot”, everybody’s shot metaphorically speaking, means everybody’s worn out, run down, burdened beyond capacity to function, “shot”. yes the soldiers being shot is more tragic, but nowadays, everybody’s shot. i think she nailed it. thank goodness for noonans.”
Thank heavens for people like you who “ get it.”

It’s the same as “tough, lifes not fair.” My mother would say “You aren’t the first to go through this and you won’t be the last.” Peggy has shortened it to “Everyones been shot.”

PG County is not an area known for care being taken in the disposal of bodies. (Not to be mistaken for a lack of murder...) Usually, they’re just dumped in some vacant lot or left lying where they were killed.

Figures the earliest I could find would involve disposing of dead bodies.
