My daughter will be driving to Gainesville from Jacksonville next week, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the speed trap in Waldo is any better. It has been a number of years since I've made that drive myself. I know there was some talk about disbanding the police department a few years ago. Does anyone know if that has made a difference?

Live in Jax, haven’t been that way in a while but I’d say it never hurts to do the speed limit in that area.........oh yeah, and Lawtey also. :^)
Is there a part of the highway system in FL that’s not a speed trap? I only ever go 5-10 over because any time I crisscross the state, they’re EVERYWHERE.
Perhaps I should have her ask the rental car company if she can rent one of those as well.
waze.com’s map of the area doesn’t show any current speed traps. I always recommend using that program on your phone as it updates live for things like hidden police officers, accidents and traffic conditions.
Why not just assume it IS there and drive carefully.
.
One of the problems in Waldo used to be that the speed limit signs were not easily seen, and no mention of the speed lowering ahead.

Waldo’s police department was disbanded in late 2014
We’ve told her, but I was wondering if it ever improved.
IIRC it’s 35 mph there, do that and ya can’t go wrong. Let some yankee from Indiana get the ticket.....oops! sorry. :^p
Thank you, I think she does use waze. It’s a pretty cool app.
Why not just assume it IS there and drive carefully......Driving ‘Carefully’ does not necessarily mean driving in the speed suggestion.
While it’s still a good idea to drive at or near the speed limit, this excerpt from Wikipedia may answer your question:
In 2012, Waldo was ranked #3 in a National Motorists Association listing of its “Worst Speed Trap Cities” in North America (with a population of less than 50,000).[5] As of 2 September 2014, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was conducting an investigation of Waldo’s ticketing following allegations of ticketing quotas, with two police chiefs having been suspended.[6] As of October 1, 2014 the town’s police force has been disbanded.[7] The city council vote was 4-1.[8]

Depending on her age,she probably won’t pay much attention to your warning anyway. :-)

Yes, Hwy 301 is still full of speed traps. Little towns like Waldo post a cop right at the speed drop.
Lol. We are displaced southerners, and Midwesterners at the worst. Not a Yankee in the house.
301 is still the fastest route, just drive the posted speed.
