NASCAR team co-owner Gene Haas will take his operation onto the grid for the first time in 2016, marking the first entry to F1 for an American team in over 30 years.

No, different family.
Gene Haas is a California guy.
Carl is a Chicago guy.

Haven't really tuned in to F1 racing since the decade of the great Senna/Prost/Mansell duels. Later, Schumacher ran away with it so many times it got boring. And the hybrid F1 cars sound like forklifts now, compared to the ungodly screams that I so loved to hear.
My allegiance and attention has been transferred over to the WEC Le Mans racing. 24 hours of nonstop all-out racing. Great stuff.
I will follow the Haas team, however. I don't expect them to do well against the Euro cartel of teams. But we'll see how that goes this season. Best of luck to Haas.

I like the sports cars too. Used to go to the Daytona 24 and 12 hours of Sebring every year when I lived in FL.

It’d complete perfection if they’d only signed a US driver (Rossi); but they do have the much-improved Romain Grosjean and the promising Estaban Gutierrez. Can’t blame them, I guess, as Rossi is not entirely proven.
They are, at least, US based, so jobs here rather than the UK. They even have openings (none in my fields of expertise, though).

My son's daily drivers are a pair of Haas VF-7s. This is not him, but to give you an idea of scale ...

Yes, a CNC mill. My son makes parts for machines that process meat(mostly). Meat tenderizers, food packaging equipment, and food processing systems. $$$ stuff.

The current machines are technological marvels, big yawn. The Ferrari 312T2 was about the best looking and the sound of the 3 liter engines of that era were something to hear.
Out of all the engines, the French V12 Matra engine sounded the best followed pretty closely by the Ferrari flat 12. I was pretty lucky and got to stand about 4 steps directly behind one of the 3 liter Ferrari engines as the mechanics were revving the throttle while they tuned it up. This was at Watkins Glen in ‘77 in the garage area. What an experience.
