So sad.
When I was in Funeral Service, I buried a girl I went to high school with, because she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Seat belt and a 6 bags of sand in the trunk in the winter to keep the back end from breaking out on slick roads.
“Tragic. Cars like that are not good to drive in inclement weather. I know, my corvette does not do well, even in rain.”
I used to live in NJ, and had both a ‘69 GTO and an ‘88 Mustang GT. When winter came I always put 250 - 300 pounds of sand in the back to increase the weight on the rear (drive) wheels, plus let air out of the tires. They still handled badly...fun cars are not the best cars for ice and snow.
I hope that this fine young lady’s family and friends can take comfort in what she did during her short life, especially donating organs to save others, and that she rests in peace. There isn’t much else one can say in these circumstances.
I was hit head-on two weeks ago on an icy 2 lane highway. Both doing about 40 mph. Deployed every airbag and totaled our F-150. I walked away. Yeah, had my seat belt on. Yeah, we got another F-150.
I had a '83 Firebird in the early nineties that I almost got killed in several times, the worst being the car doing a slow 360 on a steep winding icy mountain road in the Catskills, New York. Found out later the cars were notorious for spinning out due to the light weight in the rear.
True dat. Fortunately when I lived up north never had a car like that. Now at 63, and living in Louisiana, I thought I finally deserved a corvette as my last car. It’s a 2013 Grand Sport with 15,300 miles or so on it. Since I work remotely from home it rarely sees inclement weather (I,E, rain). We did have 8 inches of snow here though one winter. But I had a Jeep Cherokee then. So many cars off the road. People just do not know how to drive in snow down here in southeastern La. I was concerned the whole way home because of the other drivers on the road. Luckily there are no inclines really so people don’t get stuck trying to go up a small incline. Had that been the case I doubt I would have made it home.
That’s wonderful! My daughter has had two liver transplants. God bless these generous people.
I think the people who don't remember the carnage from the seat-belt-optional days are more likely to screw up. They trust the air bags to protect them, ignoring the critical word "supplemental".
Heck, I installed 3-point belts in my '65 Mustang. Need all the help I can get, that steering wheel and column aren't designed to collapse like in newer cars.
Very happy you are here to tell us the tale...thank God!
FWIW, NH allows for adults to choose whether to wear a seat belt or not.
RIP
Thanks. I’m mostly good, a little tweaked out of shape. Hoping PT will get me straightened out. Yeah, thank God.

Yup, I’ve got a ‘95 Mustang, and I have two bags of sand in the trunk. helped enough to where I just leave them there all the time, not just for a week or two in winter
Wonderful on you and daughter! It’s a miracle but at such a price....prayers
Rear wheel drive with not a lot of weight in the rear.
Not wearing a seatbelt in those conditions is truly ignorant. Sad ending.
“My kiddo is 19 and he always uses a seatbelt -——”

You hope.
I’m sure this young lady was told always to wear one too.
.
You don’t know that.
Why would you say that?
“Why would you say that?”

Educated guess——all driving schools encourage seat belt use.
