The “cast” is never there unless they are shooting a show. The items and situations are all set up in advance and loosely scripted.
The show is total BS. I stopped watching years ago.
I get the same buzz watching Antiques Roadshow, and I don’t have to watch some lazy, stupid slob to get it.
You are right. My brother went there a few years ago and said the cast is not there unless filming a show and there were life size cardboard cutouts of the cast there for pictures. When someone brought and item in Rick new in advance and research was done so he looked knowledgeable about the item. I also watched a show where Chumlee had to make some signs to hang in the shop and the guy was nearly illiterate.

We were there in 2010 and Chumlee was working the counter. None of the rest of the cast was there, and no signs of any filming.
