When I was stationed in Okinawa, my wife and the skipper's wife said they'd routinely see Okinawan men "amusing themselves" while just sitting in their car at the side of the road during lunch hour.

It's an odd place.

Had two uncles who fought on Okinawa in WWII; I can just imagine their reaction seeing a picture of a Marine general bowing to a Japanese official.
