Kudlow: US Needs 'Tough Guy With Fangs' to Enforce Free-Trade Deals

Newsmax Finance Insider and renowned economist Larry Kudlow says the United States needs a "tough guy" to enforce free-trade agreements and keep other nations, such as China, from stealing American jobs.

“The World Trade Organization has no teeth. We need fangs,” he said. “We need a tough guy who will put some enforcement in there,” he told CNBC on Thursday.

“What you have to do here is enact an enforcement mechanism that will put sanctions on individual companies wherever they are, whether it's China or Mexico, if they are violating the rules — which they do,” Kudlow, a CNBC senior contributor, said.

“That's my beef about China and they are not the only ones. They steal our intellectual property rights, counterfeit our goods hack away at our computer system,” he said.

“I’ve always liked Kudlow.”

Kudlow. Kudlow was an SDS leftist in the 60s. Then became a GOP establishment tool on Wall Street, until his cocaine habit nearly killed him. Having him support Trump makes me wonder about my own support for Trump....

Didn’t know about the SDS thing. I guess even a conservative like Trump might have changed his stripes once or twice.

Thank you for referencing that article Citizen Zed. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

There is a problem with the title of the referenced article imo. I’ve listened to Trump enough that the problem with free-trade deals is not necessarily the enforcement of such deals. After all, what’s the point in enforcing bad deals which Trump has been complaining that the misguided USA makes enough of.

One of the reasons that I support Trump is that he not only knows how to negotiate a good, win/win deal, but he’s not scared to walk away from a bad deal.

Corrections, insights welcome.

Ludlow is an acquired taste, but I respect him for his candor about his greatest shortcoming:

Go, Kudlow!

Go, Trump!

These two have almost nothing in common, in fact their solutions are actually incompatible.

Yeah that’s what AA members are expected to do as part of their rehab, so it is commendable as far as that goes. But he is definitely part of the problem with the GOP ( and the Democrats for that matter), the indifference to the plight of working Americans that has misguided our trade policy ever since Reagan left office.

I'm hoping that Trump incorporates something like this in his trade policy. He talks like it, so there is a good chance.

Sounds to me that Kudlow was describing Trump with this statement.

I like Kudlow, too. I think he is friends with Trump. It would be great to see him get a cabinet post.

Alcohol, too, I think. Becoming a Catholic helped him clean up his act. He was born Jewish.

Obama and Kerry never saw a bad deal they wouldn't kick back in Barcoloungers and stay the weekend for.
