We use to walk to school even in the snow uphill both ways.
Even in the snowy-ice storm-floods, up hill both ways at a 45% angle.
Seriously; my brother, sister, and I did walk to school about 2 miles each way.
The school had some rule like you had to live 3 miles away befor you could ride the bus.
Our mother (single parent) couldn’t drive us because she had to be to work by 6am (back in the early 50’s).
So we were responsible for getting up, bathed, dressed and out of the house by about 07:30.
Mom always left our lunch bags on the kitchen table.
We were never late for school (GOD help us if we were) and we never thought anything of it.
We lived in a semi rural area and we would collect about 8 to 12 other kids in our area as we walked in and back home.
I did it with no legs and I was happy...
<< uphill both ways>>>
I expected that, but thought it would take past post #2.
Seriously, my brothers and I had to walk to school about 2 miles when I was in the first grade, through town though.
And I went to the SEC basketball tournament in Atlanta a few years ago and there was a big hill between the hotel and the Georgia Dome, so I really did have to walk uphill both ways.
