The bomb wasn’t “dropped near the end of the war,” it caused the end of the war.

What is the writer trying to imply, that the bombing was not necessary?

Yes that is exactly it.

The revisionist history which liberals put forth is that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were unnecessary, that these cities weren’t really military targets, Japan was on its last legs, etc.

It sure is easy to sit back in your easy chair, and with 70 years of hindsight, pontificate about the events of World War II.

Do the liberals who condemn Hiroshima ever condemn the events of Pearl Harbor which got us into the war???? Or is only America to blame for certain acts during the war???

I’m about 10 miles from the area where the Plutonium for Fat Man (Nagasaki bomb) was produced.
The Kenyan is welcome to stop by on his way home to thank some of the folks who help end the war and saved a million American lives.

Yes, the big lie is that Japan was close to losing the war. Poppycock, of course. The Japanese were resolved to fight tooth and nail to defend the home islands against an invasion. Casualties would have been enormous on both sides. The shock of Hiroshima and Nagasaki produced the surrender. And even then, many of the wartime leaders in Japan were dead set against any surrender. The emperor himself had to intervene and tell them to give up. By the way, for an excellent account, I recommend The Fall of Japan by William Craig.
