Sammie and Simon are now inseparable.
Sammie, a 3-month-old boxer puppy, was shot, dragged behind a car and spray painted, according to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. He was taken to Paws & Claws Animal Clinic in Columbia, S.C., for treatment, according to the YouCaring page set up to aid his recovery.
There, a border collie named Simon befriended him. Simon, whos recovering from mange and neglect, noticed Sammies suffering. In a touching photo, he reaches out to comfort his canine companion.
A perfect example which shows us that our companion animals DO FEEL pain and show compassion for others, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC wrote. Sammie accepted Simons soft touch and was grateful for the love and affection that Simon showed him.
Sammie suffered a pair of broken legs and may end up losing them. According to the group, Sammie had his first surgery last week, which lasted more than three hours. The biggest concerns are infections in the bone since his injuries were several days old by the time he had surgery.
Hell be kept on strict cage rest as he recovers. Vets hope theyll be able to save his legs.

It is only a small step from cruelty to animals to cruelty to humans.
I don’t think a Sheltie would.
I would not strongly argue against your position. However, I wonder if people misusing animals are not displacing their anger/rage against people onto animals? Maybe animal abuse is a “safety valve.”
It’s easy to think of one subhuman who deserves some really creative cruelty, like the one that did this.
Do they have a clue as to who did this???
I’m not an Animal Rights advocate at all, but I do believe that any sentient being capable suffering pain and fear, should be spared from pain and fear as much as possible. Even if we are in the process of legitimately hunting and harvesting them for meat: you should not do that in a way that recklessly imposes terrified suffrring.
Those who torture animals deliberately, can themselves hardly be deemed human.
Those who would do this, need —— I don’t know -—need to be isolated unarmed, off on an island by themselves, where they can harm neither man or beast.
I think is is more someone is conditioning themselves to be more and more cruel.
Exactly.
Hard to say. One might argue that by taking action to hurt an animal a person’s internal controls are breaking down and such a breakdown may lead to an escalation to cruelty against people?
I would never, under any conditions , trust an animal-torturer with a child.
I was taught to hunt as a kid, like most ranch kids-I was also taught never, ever to inflict suffering on an animal. I love cats and dogs, and if anyone did something that cruel to one of mine, they’d find themselves being dragged down the road behind my 4x4...
That is simply prudence.
I think most normal country people -— both livestock ranchers and hunters -— consciously oppose cruelty to their meat animals as far as possible. In hunting and slaughtering, a quick painless kill is the aim.
And of course a pet: you’d never tolerate torture of a pet. That’s just wrong.
You were raised right!
We were taught to avoid anyone who was even rumored to be cruel to animals-any animals-the assumption was that they were very likely to be dangerous-we were told that anyone who is wantonly cruel to animals will probably do the same to humans-I cautioned my cub the same way...

I’m right there with you. We have had a few incidents of this sort of idiocy in the Metromess recently. I have a strong fear that I might shoot somebody I saw doing miserable things to an animal, especially a cat or dog. And this from someone who has watched a rancher nut his calves with a pocket knife and feed the oysters to his dog. He wasn’t being evil, that is just how the ranchers did stuff like that back then.
By the way, I was reading your home page, the area around Bandera is a place I dream of living. I consider that as beautiful as anywhere I’ve seen in the Lone Star state. It just appeals to me somehow, and I’ve been all over.
