Oh that happened in the 1960s with Gamera.

Thanks nickcarraway.
...a vehicle in front of her ran over a turtle in the middle lane of the highway... ended up crashing through her windshield, hitting the passenger’s seat and coming to rest on the dashboard... survived and appeared to be uninjured.
When I was a kid we ran over an adult snapping turtle, on hard pavement, 1960s highway speed; the old man backed up, got the still feisty bastard (the turtle, not dad, although...) to grab hold of the end of a window scraper (wood handle), and frisbeed him off into the adjacent marsh. They're tough (snapping turtles, not marshes).

We usedto catch them over 20 pounds all the time. They’ll take your finger off easily/

Said they patched them up all the time, most often due to encounters with lawn mowers.

The dog or the turtle?

Yeah that is what I thought, but wasn’t sure. I have caught a couple of them but I always returned them to water and let them go. One came very close to actually getting me, LOL.

She was lucky.

I wouldn’t want a deer - or a moose collision.

I once hit a deer broadside man - it just flew over the roof after it dented the front hood.

Weirdest thing I saw in my life.

I found a stick on the side of the road. They were sort of everywhere. Trees, y’know.

Sure, there are trees on the side of the road... right behind the buildings...

Sorry, I was responding to your comment but I didn't copy/paste your comment. It was a lapse on my part, I usually copy/paste so that the other person knows what I'm referring to.

Your comment: I found a stick on the side of the road. They were sort of everywhere. Trees, y’know.

to which I responded: Sure, there are trees on the side of the road... right behind the buildings...

Which I said because there are not always sticks around when you need to move a snapping turtle.

I admit I once stopped on a busy highway and helped a turtle across.

It must have helped my karma because a few day later I found a $100 bill on the floor of a bar, and I lost my clip on sunglasses in a large open space preserve and returned the next day, and found them!

As an aside I have a new musical obsession: Covers of rock and heavy metal songs performed by bluegrass-type people. It's a lot of fun, and Pandora linked me to this odd/interesting band called Trampled by Turtles.
