National Geographic has kicked off its 2016 Travel Photographer of the Year contest. The winner receives a seven-day Polar Bear Photo Safari for two at Churchill WildSeal River Heritage Lodge, a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World. As much as Nat Geo has become a boo-hoo forum for third-world crapholes and global warming nutbags, their photography is simply stunning. My dream while I was a newspaper photographer was to one day take one picture that was worthy of publication in Nat Geo.
He will leave a void.

Here’s to hoping that someone with a cell-phone camera wins it. Photogs with those 2-foot-long lenses impress me with their obsessions; but I’m feeling really populist this year.

I thought all of the Polar Bears either died from heat-stroke due to gloal warming or drowned.
