Cinemas existed years ago
Saudi Arabia is expected to allow the opening of cinema houses again after they were shut many years ago because of religious opposition.
Cinemas had existed in Saudi Arabia for a long time but they were shut a few years ago. We expect a decision allowing them to reopen, said Sultan Al Bazei, chairman of the Saudi Culture and Arts Association.
The decision is not in our hands but I am optimistic because the society in the Kingdom has drastically changed, he told the Saudi Arabic language daily Alhayat.
Saudi Arabia, the largest Arab country and worlds dominant oil exporter, is the only Gulf nation that does not have cinema houses and enforces laws banning gender-mixing in public places.
Lawrence Of Arabia?
Yeah, some imam issued a fatwa cuz he wanted to see his favorite girlie.
El Cid
I’ll be excited when churches are allowed.
The future must not belong to those who deny the true nature of Islam
John Qunicy Adams on Islam
In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.
Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every mans hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus (Blunt, 1830, 29:269, capitals in orig.).
Time for a total travel ban on Saudi citizens into the USA, exceptions permitted only after extremely lengthy vetting.
The Shareef don’t like it.
It will clash with the jihadists.
There is the old statement of bread and circuses.
It sounds like liberalization will include entertainment, as they try to figure out how to keep supplying bread.
The irony is that there’s almost nothing worth watching at the cinema anymore. Perhaps that’s why the Saudis thought it would OK to reopen them.
Who would that be?
I'll take a shot: Salma Hayek
On one hand, the new king and advisors see Saudi Arabia in an existential crisis, with radical islam being the cause. They can't survive as they are, and they can't modernize while being islamic radicals. On the other hand, the Wahhabis will not change. So one will have to lose, and the future of islam is at stake.
“She Wore a Black Hefty Bag” starring Mohammed Wayne.
How modern of them. Next thing you know they’ll start letting women drive.
