Ah, late summer in the French Quarter - there's a reference that so many can immediately understand.

IMO, even if every bar in the area were permanently closed, it would take ten years or more for that stench to finally vanish. And it rains there pretty regularly.

My son went to Tulane so I remember the smell of the French Quarter in August quite well. No other place quite like it that I have seen.

My brother calls the ‘new’ Times Square “Potterville” - after the awful fantasy city shown to James Stewart by the angel Clarence in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” He ain’t wrong.

I was in the French Quarter in April. Bourbon Street had a noticeable stench. Sort of a watered down vomit smell. The rest of the area just smelled like big city. We stayed on Canal Street which was had no odor.

FYI Sidney Torres’ company had the Quarter smelling lemony and clean-almost
Disney like. That ended when the politicians ended his companies contract. They wanted their cronies to make the $$ so its back to the traditional “ambience” stench. Can’t have it smelling like a civilized place and ruin the funky fun.
