Lane Graves was not the first youngster to be attacked by an alligator at Disney World.

In 1986, 8-year-old Paul Santamaria was bit on the leg by a 7-foot-4 inch long female, which had been lurking in the shallows of a pond that was also located at one of the park’s famous resorts — and his parents later sued, charging the “Happiest Place on Earth” with negligence.

In the suit, they claimed that Disney had failed to warn visitors about the gator,

His parents should have known. This is Florida. It is very different from where they are from. Sometimes tourists leave their brains at home when they come to the state.

Alligator souvenirs cover every square foot of gift shops and gas stations throughout Florida. From gator key chains to gator mugs and gator pillows, it would be an extraordinary feat of brainless wonder to miss the Florida alligator association.

For the record--the boy's father was not within arm's reach when the little one was in the water at after 9:00 PM. The 2 year old was left to read the No Swimming sign all by himself. I doubt the 2 year old could have read "Beware of Alligators" signs any better.

Disney World was built in the early 70s on top of a swamp.

The Grand Floridian Hotel resembles the Hotel del Coronado.

[[Disney wouldn’t Disney without water attractions. Aggressive removal of all alligators, and equally aggressive measures to keep them out, is the correct response.]]

To bad it is against the law .
Here lies the problem there are to many alligators all over the state that are now large enough to take a person off a bank . You can’t just walk over to them and take them out .
You have to call in a nuisance gator report for a trapper with a tag for that gator to come out and take care of it.
So what happens is they take them out and other huge ones just move in because there are just to many of them .

Disney has trappers come in all constantly to remove anything that they consider could be a problem but this time of year large gators are on the move so until they are spotted they are not going to be removed .

Florida just need a massive culling all over the place.

Most of the waterways lagoons and ponds etc in florida are interconnected. you can’t just get rid of all the gators. gator attacks are rare, and deaths are extremely rare. this is ridiculous hysteria.

I love the signs, on the golf courses, If a gator has your golf ball, play another no penalty!
Gators love golf balls because some people think feeding gators marshmallows is cute. That is till the come into your yard and eat your dog.

You haven’t lived til you stay out on the big lake in a ganoe a little too long and its getting real dark. My sister and I did that one night and as we were paddling up the canal to the lake house in total darkness we could hear the gators on the bank grunting and then we would hear a splash. I have to tell you we were sweating bullets til we hit the dock. Never again. LOL! We did have a nice mess of crappie though.

"IMAGE"

There was a young girl of Decatur
Who smiled as she rode on a gator;
They came back from the ride
With the poor child inside,
And the smile on the face of gator.

If it wasn’t for the gators Florida would be overrun by snakes, small mammals, other alligators, white-tailed deer, wild hogs, livestock, dogs and cats.

LOL, when I was in the Navy, I went with a friend to snorkel in one of those, and I must say, it never even crossed my mind.

But those crystal clear springs didn’t seem at all like the kind of place you would see a gator. Didn’t seem like their habitat...
