His parents should have known. This is Florida. It is very different from where they are from. Sometimes tourists leave their brains at home when they come to the state. There are a multitude of naturally occurring situations that can take lives. Alligators and hurricanes are just two of them.

There are severe lightning storms in Florida too. I’ve seen tourists, in the pool when a storm comes up, refuse to get out when told lightening is dangerous and they need to exit the pool. People on golf courses get struck all the time. Gators are a dangerous aspect of living in Florida.

Since Florida is most famous for its gators, people visiting the state need to remember that fact and take precautions. It’s not a joke. They go after people and animals. They don’t care at all what the venue looks like. They can show up any time in places they have never been seen before.

Craziest rain i have ever seen in my life was in Florida, Panama City on the Panhandle around ‘89-90.
When i saw those black clouds coming in over the gulf i knew we were in trouble...
Unbelievable rain like i had ever seen.
i was shocked that there was even any oxygen to breathe there was so much water.
Basically ruined my trip, at least the first two days were nice...and the day we had to leave.

Alligator souvenirs cover every square foot of gift shops and gas stations throughout Florida. From gator key chains to gator mugs and gator pillows, it would be an extraordinary feat of brainless wonder to miss the Florida alligator association.

For the record--the boy's father was not within arm's reach when the little one was in the water at after 9:00 PM. The 2 year old was left to read the No Swimming sign all by himself. I doubt the 2 year old could have read "Beware of Alligators" signs any better.
