In his speech, Trump said:
"The killer was an Afghan, of Afghan parents, who immigrated to the United States. His father published support for the Afghan Taliban, ...
"The bottom line is that the only reason the killer was in America in the first place was because we allowed his family to come here.
"That is a fact, and it's a fact we need to talk about.
Immediately after Trump's speech, MSNBC's Katie Tur "fact-checked" Trump, announcing that he had incorrectly said Omar was "born in Afghan."
What did Tur think this meant? "Afghan" isn't a country. Didn't she pause for a moment and realize that what she thought he said makes no sense? Journalists with their outsized sense of importance say, No, no, that's not what I heard. It says in my notes right here, you said, "blue carrots for Eisenhower." I stand by my notes.
Obviously, what Trump said was that Omar was "born an Afghan." Which he was.
The media began indignantly informing us that Trump was wrong because -- as The Washington Post put it: "The shooter was born in Queens to parents who emigrated from Afghanistan."
With the media, you're an "American" when you commit the worst mass shooing in U.S. history, an "Afghan" when you're applying to college. You're an "American" when you shoot up the San Bernardino community center, a "Pakistani" when you're offended by Trump's remarks. You're an "American" when you slaughter troops at Fort Hood, a "Muslim" when the Army realizes it can't fire you.
This can lead to confusion. After the Post snippily corrected Trump on Omar not being an "Afghan" on Monday, on Tuesday, the Post admitted he was. Headline: "Orlando gunman said he carried out attack to get 'Americans to stop bombing his country,' witness says."

I always listen to Trump’s speeches and rallies on Conservative Tree House...and yes I heard him say this, and no none of the media twits said a word about it....which isn’t surprising to me!!!
“The shooter was born in Queens to parents who emigrated from Afghanistan.”
***************************
An amazing number of people wrongly believe that makes him a natural born citizen.
Native born, yes, citizen, yes, natural born, no.
Children of foreign nationals are NOT natural born citizens.
I did a search and found a lot of headlines making fun of Trump because the killer was born in US.
He was born here, because we let his folks come here. That is what I heard Trump to mean, but the paid Clinton shills will put out the most negative they can. Warning of 1964 loss? Bandini. People are righteously pissed off, and add the folks who hate the Clintons and are ambivalent on Trump and can vote for him. Trump wins.
Wish I had said that.
But who gave them what to get in here? Are they on visas? Are they under ‘government’ protection? If so, by what government department, besides the Clinton RICO mafia crime family... or the Bush Crime Family that is related to the Clinton family that includes several of our candidates that got their butts kicked?
The media twits think that everything they print we are not going to check, and we do, that’s why we find so many, many lies that they tell...I did hear him say he thought he was born in New York, but the crowd was cheering so I don’t know if that is actually what he said...
Personally, I think more than the Washington Post should be pulled from his events...
Confucius “Rectification of names”. Must read.
You still can!
I heard it . . . I cringed.
I’m glad you reposted. You excerpted it well but I encourage others to give this article a click. Ann has an uncanny knack for capturing the loose ends floating around my brain and bringing them to a soft landing. I apologize for every nasty thing I ever said about her.
Yea, I posted an article about that awhile ago. Confucius was pretty wise.
Just really asking, but what does that have to do with anything...?
Natural, native born...whatever, he is still a domestic terrorist...
I cringed too, knowing he was born in NY. But if he did say in “in Afghan” not Afghanistan and looking at his and his father’s actions maybe this is a good point.
I never really liked her in person but I loved her books and articles. She does better in writing than in person.
When he started school he could not speak English. (the Afgan language was spoken in his home. )
Knowing a teacher who had several of these young men in her school there is a pattern.
They were abusive to female teachers and refused to follow any directions from them.( spitting in face included)
They often were aggressive to children on play ground. ( grabbing little girls inappropriately)
They refused to stand for pledge of allegiance. They identified themselves as Afgans
It all sounded too familiar as I had been told of this behavior for decades.
