Looks like a young elephant, somehow got lost from the herd. I doubt they would try that on a full grown bull. I have seen films of them taking down baby elephants.

My first thought was the elephant should walk out into the water. Took him a while but he figured that out.

I have seen a horrid video of a baby elephant slowly being consumed by lionesses. It is truly the saddest thing...they grab the trunk to make it stop crying.
And scoop out one eye, after which it pauses in crying for a moment, as if it doesn’t understand why it cannot see any longer ( the other eye is facing the ground ).

And so, now I say hunt and kill all the lions. Yep.
Kill many many Cecils.

In many mammal species, including elephants, young animals leave their native herd/ population/ location. This is called ‘natal dispersal’, and it may often be biased towards males. It is a mechanism that has evolved over the millennia to avoid (a) inbreeding with relatives and (b) competition with kin.
