Do you get to keep them or is it “public” property, so it has to be given back or else you violated the federal law?
You keep what you find there.

You find it, it is yours!
If you like they will weigh it and verify it.
That said people right near me found them,very friendly environment, but you could tell they did NOT want to brag about their find. They were locals and said they come three or four times a week, weather permitting.
I found one miniscule diamond and lost it in the wash tank!
And the biscuits and gravy at the hotel were fantastic!
