I never did play with dynamite but have handled it quite a bit. it is pretty safe until it gets old and when it starts bleeding through the wraper, beware.
never take it for granted.
But kids in my part of the country could get it easy enough and most of them knew how to use it.
When I was a kid they had PSA’s (Public Service Announcements) in Sacramento, CA
They would do a close up of a Blasting Cap and then go to a baseball Diamond and show that if a Blasting Cap went off on First Base the Kid on Second Base is History
So basically if a kid finds a Blasting Cap leave it alone
We found them (sometimes boxes of them) and blew stuff up... not nearly as impressive as the PSA, we wanted some of the Dynamite that was supposedly near the caps, we never found any.
More fun than a kid should ever have! (I was 8 at the time)
