Donald Trump would be the most reckless president in American history, according to a damning letter signed by 50 prominent Republican national security experts urging voters to stay away from the GOP nominee this fall.
In the clearest sign yet that Trump has failed to win over droves of Republican voters worried about his mercurial temperament and erratic behavior, the letters signatories, which include dozens of former officials in the Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and both Bush White Houses, made clear, in no uncertain terms, that the mogul not only lacks the credentials to be the nations leader but would be dangerous if elected.
Donald Trump is not qualified to be President and Commander-in-Chief. Indeed, we are convinced that he would be a dangerous Precedent and would put at risk our countrys national security and well-being, the letter stated.
Trump lacks the character, values and experience to be President, would weaken U.S. moral authority as the leader of the free world, and appears to lack basic knowledge about and belief in the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws and U.S. institutions, including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent judiciary, the letters authors, who include former CIA and NSA Director Michael Hayden, former deputy secretary of state John Negroponte, former World Bank President Robert Zoellick and former Secretaries of Homeland Security Tom Ridge and Michael Chertoff, continued.
In addition, Mr. Trump has demonstrated repeatedly that he has little understanding of Americas vital national interests, its complex diplomatic challenges, its indiscernible alliances, and the democratic values on which U.S. foreign policy must be based, they wrote. At the same time, he persistently compliments our adversaries and threatens our allies and friends. Unlike previous Presidents who had limited experience in foreign affairs, Mr. Trump has shown no interest in educating himself.
He continues to display an alarming ignorance of basic facts of contemporary international politics, the letter stated, adding that Trump lacks the temperament to be President.
He is unable or unwilling to separate truth from falsehood. He does not encourage conflicting views. He lacks self-control and acts impetuously. He cannot tolerate personal criticism. He has alarmed our closest allies with his erratic behavior, the authors wrote.
All of these are dangerous qualities in an individual who aspires to be President and Commander-in-Chief, with command of the U.S. nuclear arsenal, they wrote.
None of us will vote for Donald Trump, they said. Many (Americans) have doubts about Hillary Clinton, as do many of us. But Donald Trump is not the answer to America's daunting challenges and to this crucial election."
We are convinced that in the Oval Office, he would be the most reckless President in American history, the letter stated.
The starkly worded note is overt evidence that even the most dedicated Republicans remained deathly concerned over Trumps ability to be President. Only five months ago, 70 Republican national security officials penned a similar letter blasting Trump as a fundamentally dishonest figure who would make America less safe.
The most recent letter comes amid much higher stakes.
Since the prior note, Trump has formally become the GOPs presidential nominee. But that extraordinary position has done little, if anything, to stem the constant spew of bizarre and dangerous statements emanating from the moguls mouth.
In the last several weeks alone Trump has repeatedly criticized the Muslim-American parents of a fallen U.S. soldier, has encouraged Russian intelligence officials to use their hacking expertise to find thousands of missing emails Hillary Clinton purportedly deleted a charge that was blasted across both parties as treasonous and has said he would only uphold the nation's NATO obligations if other members in the critical alliance "properly reimbursed" the U.S. for its protection.
The outrageous proposals resulted in a slew of defections among prominent Republican lawmakers and figures who have said theyll either vote for Clinton or sit out the election.
Trump shrugged off the politically motivated letter in a statement Monday and said the letters authors were the ones whod made the world a more dangerous place.
The names on this letter are the ones the American people should look to for answers on why the world is a mess, and we thank them for coming forward so everyone in the country knows who deserves the blame for making the world such a dangerous place. They are nothing more than the failed Washington elite looking to hold onto their power, and its time they are held accountable for their actions, the statement said.
These insiders along with Hillary Clinton are the owners of the disastrous decisions to invade Iraq, allow Americans to die in Benghazi, and they are the ones who allowed the rise of ISIS. Yet despite these failures, they think they are entitled to use their favor trading to land taxpayer-funded government contracts and speaking fees. Its time we put our foot down and declare that their gravy train is over: no longer will Crooked Hillary Clinton and the other disasters in Washington get rich at our expense.
I love Trump’s response that these are 5o people responsible for our current mess.
Compared to Who????
Hillary?????????
