If the child was in pain and you did not prescribe something to temporarily relieve it then I feel you were violating your ‘Do No Harm’ oath.

A few days of something as mild as a Tylenol 3 would have made your patient more comfortable while he/she mended.

I’m sure that a 12 year old is not going to run out and seek heroin from the local drug dealer when they get back their feet.

Get real.

The younger the age at first exposure to a potentially habituating substance, the greater the chance of addiction.

The codeine in Tylenol 3 is extremely addicting.

Nonsense. It was a minor sprain and the child did not need a narcotic. Ibuprofen and ice were adequate. Creating the belief that every injury needs narcotics has gotten us to the disaster we now have.
