A man holding his 4-year-old daughter’s hand was so terrified by a drive-by shooting unfolding before him in The Bronx that he released the kid’s grip and made like Usain Bolt — leaving the child to fend for herself, surveillance video released by the NYPD Saturday reveals.

Many peoples first instinct would be to protect the child with their bodies, however running away from the child could be a better choice under the right circumstances. ... Like they we’re shooting at the father.

If the gunman is purposely targetting YOU, then the sensible thing might be to put as much distance between your child and you as possible.

I recently viewed a video of a father firing at a robber at a gas station over the head of his small child. His judgement was probably that there wasn't time to push the child out of the way. The child was unhurt except for possibly some ringing in the ears.

If a gunman was purposely attacking me, the last thing I would do is pick up a child.

Good point - makes sense. I was going to compare this story to yesterday’s news of the dog laying over the child, saving the child from a house fire (the dog died). But - I guess if I knew that the guy was shooting at me I would move away from my kids.

Unless I was muslim - then I’d hold them up in front of me.

that man ought to thank God that George Patton did not get a hold of him. The outcome would be curtains for him.

The article failed to say if he was being targeted.

Either way, he should be fleeing the unsafe neighborhood with his family.

Scum. trash, subhuman waste of oxygen, knuckledragger.

A real father is willing and able to do anything for his child, including protect the kid to the death.

Flees because you can always have another kid, whereas you only have one life.

Animals stay to protect their young, but not sub-humans.
