A French politician who hopes to run for president next year has come up with an original idea of how the country can combat the “culture of fear” in the wake of recent terror attacks.
Compulsory martial arts classes in France’s schools would help children respond to the fear of attacks in a productive but safe way, centrist politician Jean Lassalle believes.
“There is fear everywhere,” Lassalle said to Le Figaro newspaper.
“That leads some people to go around with a knife. But with martial arts, you develop self-control and learn to defend yourself peacefully.” …

The purpose of martial arts is to gain enough time to access your weapons.
Call me cynical, but how can you mount a productive response knowing some martial arts to a drive-by shooting, a bombing, or gunfire in a crowded theater? That's not the way to combat an invasion by muslim terrorists. Better just to keep them out of your country, yes?
Instead of teaching martial arts that are useless for drive bys, 20 ton truck death races, bombings, or gunfire they could unban gun ownership, and teach compulsory responsible gun defense classes.
The ultimate "martial art" was the crafting of the hydrogen bomb. Anything less than that risks losing the war.
When was the last time the French won a war; taking into account that the French surrendered to Germany in World War II?
Are we going to end up pulling their bacon out of the fire again?
Maybe Lassalle has been watching too much “Naruto” and got the wrong impression of ninjutsu.
You see my point. Myself, I believe being armed is a more credible defense. Kind of hard using that weapon when a bomb goes off or a truck bears down on you from behind. Better yet, borders with strong walls, and keeping the terrorists out with a deportation of troublemakers will help the people sleep better, not to mention lowering fear levels in going out on the streets. Unfettered immigration of muslim terrorists is akin to forcing you to take them into your home, and trying to sleep with one eye open wondering if your’re going to die. I’d sleep better if the terrorist wasn’t in the house.
Who needs martial arts when you got a gun?
Defend yourself peacefully? What?
Fighting, assaulting, defending, its all violence. But some of it is absolutely necessary and politicians need to stop spending so much time making it palatable.
Politicians need to change the subject with some sort of sham wow idea.
This ‘centrist’ politician decides that martial arts is his diversionary issue.
Having and knowing how to use a gun effectively for self defense is a martial art.
