Officers arrested a 38-year-old man Wednesday in downtown Seattle after he attacked three people with a baseball bat.
Around 10 AM, the suspect approached a 39-year-old man at Westlake Park and asked for a cigarette. When the man declined, the suspect brandished his bat and struck the victim in the arm.

I see more and more people with mental/drug/drinking problems on the street every day when I would say most should be institutionalized for their sake and the sake of the general public.
My cynical take is that the government would righteously say they should have their freedom but the actual motive is that the afflicted would die much faster on the street than if monitored safely while living in an institution.
Not much of suspect description. Wonder why that is?
We can thank the ACLU for this. Back in the seventies or eighties they allowed mentally ill people to make their own judgment as to whether they wanted to say at a mental hospital or leave.
I think the lawsuits were more in the 1960s and 70s that led to it being much more difficult to involuntarily incarcerate the mentally ill/incompetent. But we’re on the same page.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Islam which is a religion of peace.
Didn’t we read something this past week where ISIS was encouraging lone wolves to use baseball bats for attacks?

I heard a nurse on the radio say that the medical staff is only allowed something like 72 hours before they have to let the mental patient go. She complained that they didn’t have the time to see whether the medications were working and the patient could walk right out the door and they might never see them again.
