I'll ask that those who visit these threads take a similarly positive approach -- it's not a "caucus", but these are not intended to be threads to bash Microsoft on.
Thanks, FRiends.
Never mind those webcams, and PowerShell, and whatnot... MOST of the Anniversary Update worked, and here's some information on how to take advantage of it!
Thanks very much, (again) awesome you, dayglored!
Aww, thanks Onyx!! Just tryin’ to be helpful...
I personally like Win 10.
Best since XP.
Actually, I like it too—its extremely stable.
I do wonder if when I turn off the various spy options, they are really turned off.
This is only the 6th comment—all you Luddites out there that just hate it on principle... time to chime in!
Is this update for Windows 10 Pro as well? I did a “check for updates” and it says I’m up to date even though the version is 1511 and not 1607
Had no trouble updating. It did take some time after the restart to get things up and running properly.
I got two machines running Win10, both with on board video.
With the AMD chip it doesn't like being run through a KVM, at my preferred setting, lower than what it suggests, and messes up the desktop layout, both icons and windows, when I switch to it.
On an Intel video chip machine, direct HDMI connected, on boot, same damn thing with icon layout because of the more vision-saving sizing, I'm guessing.
Both machines worked fine before the updates.
I'm not the help desk, LOL.
Actually, I noticed some driver problems after this last 1607 update, but they were minor. I sometimes play a full-screen video game, and I used to be able to Alt-Tab out of it to the desk top, come back, and play some more. But, now, the video on the game is in slow motion (low frame rate) unless I stop and restart the game. The game is Doom 4; the video card is an Nvidia 970GTX in a big laptop.
I figure it will get fixed, eventually, either by MSFT or Nvidia. Maybe a buffer or video memory needs flushing.
Oh well, the cost of progress.
I don’t understand it, either. The anniversary update is supposed to replace the ‘all apps’ function on the startup page with a drop down list of most recent apps used. I do not have that, yet when I check for updates, it says my updates are current.
Except that, now it does. Never mind.
The Wife has a Win 10 machine.
Last update nixed all four of her printers.
All four; hence it is not a specific printer driver issue.
She is back to 3.5 printers (with her main printer unable to duplex Outlook emails).
I’m shifting Her to a Mac with Windows 7 (via Parallels) in the next year.
I DO NOT APPRECIATE AUTOMATIC UPDATES (that I can not turn off)!
Since I got my surface in march I’ve consistently received a message that my video driver has crashed and restarted. I was hoping the update would take care of it, but it still happens.
Also my camera went out briefly, but I never use it anyway.
I get surveys every few months and I do give them an earful.
The only bitch I have with the upgrade is that it took away seemless bluetooth xfers from my phone to the desktop. I used that a lot.
I cant get it to work like it used to. The way that it worked without prompts or permission. The way that I liked it working.
I have to approve/accept every bluetooth xfer to my desktop, everytime.
I hope the little check box to fix this is somewhere I have looked a million times and I just need to be directed there one more time............
I’m not a Windows sysadmin, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they moved that from the obvious Settings security checks to the more obscure security policy windows.
I bet somebody here knows.
Maybe it’s part of the UAC (user access control) stuff.
I am using Classic Shell and “God Mode” and cant seem to find it.
I have been computing since I had to manually help type in the program and save it on casette tape. This $$$hit it getting rather bothersome.
Running the update as I freep. I really have had no issues with Windows 10 and this laptop (or any of the other PC’s in my house) but most of my hardware is pretty current. My Lenovo Flex 14 has an i5 4th gen chip and intel video, printer is only a couple years old etc. I have noticed after a couple of updates sometimes I need to reinstall an app to get it visible/running again but that is rare. One thing I still cant figure out is what happened to my facial recognition when I went from 8.1 to 10 but it was a program from Lenovo. Maybe hello will work. Also Bitlocker I have never been able to figure out how to turn on but I think that is because I don’t run Pro.
Cannot open EDGE or any Windows 10 page. Not even Bing! Mozilla still works so I use Firefox and Google.
