Candice Hammonds and Thomas Burkett had planned to get married on October 1.
But, in late August, doctors in Thomaston, Georgia delivered some heartbreaking news: Candaces father, Steve Hammonds, only had a few days to live.
Quickly, the couple worked to have the ceremony ready in time.
In a matter of 24 hours, the wedding was moved to the Upson Regional Medical Center, inside Steves ICU room.
In many ways, it was a traditional wedding, with the couple exchanging vows and rings.

Beautiful. Thank you.
Good deal glad he actually got to see that event, especially since the prognosis was accurate as well.
When you are the dad of a daughter there is much pressure to "be around to walk her down the aisle". People (specifically women) have no problem throwing that one out there from the time she's an infant. This is clearly something that means a great deal. Imagine, then, the emotions of that dad when he discovered he couldn't be there. Not just sad that he couldn't see it, but he probably felt like he was letting her down. I'm glad they found a way to make it happen, even of there was no walking down the aisle involved!
I'll never forget it.Even now,12 years later,it causes my eyes to get damp.
God Bless! Good work by the family to get it done!
You are in my thoughts and Prayers!
Many, many thanks. My Dad was an exceptional man.And this story, too,is both beautiful and sad.Kinda makes ya think....
So true.
Wish I could help you better.
Hugs for you. I still tear up about my mother’s death from time to time. We lost her in 2009.
How sweet that is.
My father took off when I was two, I saw for him once every few years, he gave me zero attention and then had the nerve to complain when I didn’t invite him to my wedding.
Another touching story:
On the eve of her wedding day, Jeni met for the first time, the man who's now living with her father's heart. A meeting filled with emotion for Jeni and the entire Stepien family. Jeni's father, Michael Stepien, was murdered in Swissvale back in 2006. His organs were donated, including the heart Arthur Thomas had been waiting 16 years for.
