Billy Preston was “tapped” by the Beatles as a possible “next big thing.”

Harry Nilsson was also in that category, but never participated in a business arrangement with Apple Records, as did Mr. Preston.

The Beatles knew how to spot excellent musical talent, but that’s not enough to become a monster. Both Preston and Nilsson had substantial professional careers, but are today mostly known by other musicians.

Loved watching Billy on ‘Shindig’ back in the day. As a B3 player, I’d get all excited watching him kick butt on his B3. Loved when he performed with Roberta Flack.

Tragic story, as is all too common, among musicians. Contributed a lot to R&B music.

This lyric refusing to offer his lady love money makes me smile each time I hear the song.

"Don't you remember I told ya ... I'm a soldier ... in the war on poverty"

My favorite (from the movie “Fast Break”); Syreeta Wright is the ex-wife of Stevie Wonder...
