I’ve always heard that wild pigs didn’t taste good. I would think that these are raised similar to wild pigs, so why do they taste better?

Michigan pig farmers have been harangued and even forced to kill their exotic pigs that don’t fit the factory pig mold. It was quite an amazing abuse of power, I thought - DNR protecting the big commercial farmers. All the Michigan Legislature had to do was fix the definition of ‘feral pig,’ and don’t know if they ever did that. HOrdes of refugees and illegal aliens are welcome to infiltrate my state, but not the yummy little pigs. Just not fair.

As the article said, pork absorbs more flavor from what the pig eats than most other meats. The wild pigs that don’t taste good probably feed on lousy stuff, whatever they come across. Whereas these pigs feed on acorns, among other things.

Boar meat generally tastes bad. It’s only used in highly spiced products such as pepperoni. If they’re not castrating at least 95% of the males born in each litter, they’re essentially wasting about 50% of pork produced.
