Great idea. I’ll use that for some of my raw veggies. We eat a lot of raw veggies good snack for football, plus some
frozen grapes.
*SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT*
That’s awesome results on the tomato plants! I used to manage one of the Jung Garden Centers, and if you’re not familiar with them, get to know them! Good prices, quality stuff!
My new favorite tomato is, ‘Chef’s Orange.’ A beautiful, sweet, low-acid orange slicer. Super productive.
I sometimes miss that job, but 10 years of it was plenty, LOL! Prior to that I worked for The Seed Savers Exchange, so I was ‘in the biz’ for close to 20 years after my Army career. I’ve retired now, to farm. This was my first season out here, and I did pretty well - but I need more raised beds! :)
A bounty of winter squash that Beau grew out for me a few years before we got engaged and I moved out to his 160 acre farm.
Red Lake currants, in a 5-gallon bucket, ready to become jelly.
Freshly dug Red Norland potatoes with Rosemary. Yum!
Homegrown Sprouts. If you haven't tried this, please do! Super easy. Nutritious and delicious.
The year I experimented with growing tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers in 5-gallon nursery pots. It was a stunning success! You really CAN grow food anywhere you can set a pot in the sunshine!
Those are beautiful tomatoes! I learned a very valuable lesson this year. Some tomatoes are like vines and can send out shoots that will take root and keep spreading. What started out as a couple dozen tomato plants turned into a massive jungle of tomatoes that completely overran the garden. It was a huge mess that I couldn’t keep up with! I’ve been pulling them like crazy and feeding them to the chickens. I wanted to share tomatoes with my parents, can some sauce and keep the church food pantry stocked. Instead, I couldn’t weed, keep control of the bugs, etc. Never again!!
I learn a new lesson every year and make adjustments. An unexpected health issue kept me out of the garden for about 6 weeks and my dad just couldn’t keep up with it on his own. Bless him for trying! Keeping it simple next year!!
Oh, Yes. I broke my foot at the beginning of September one season - which is Prime Harvest Time for a southern Wisconsin garden. I was laid up for SIX of the l-o-n-g-e-s-t weeks of my LIFE!
Luckily, I had a lot of friends rotate through and harvest for me. I shared the bounty, of course. :)
But Wednesday I finally got around to dressing my asparagus beds - and just in time for the 1.5 inches of snow we got Thursday!
Put clear plastic sheeting around the chicken run for the winter.
Need to carve some time out next week to get our garlic in.
Hot cherry peppers are still growing next to the house (under glass), and several rows of lettuce, too.
Soon the "season of dead things" will be upon us. Sigh....
and REST!!!
God Bless You!!
Aww...Thanks (cough sniffle cough)
Will you marry me too???
I’ve been WAITING for you to ask! A girl can never have too many husbands...or diamonds...or garden plots! :)
My first thought is to say you two should “get a room.”
Thinking twice it should be “get a greenhouse.”
I suspect it should be secret from your lovely spouses :)
/kidding of course
LOL!
‘Tubey’ and I go waaaay back. Gardening NUT CASES as you can see.
‘Get a greenhouse.’ LOVED THAT! :)
Thanks for posting, it is very interesting.
I’m NOT marrying you unless you buy me a tiller...and one for Lady Bender, too. I. Have. Spoken. ;)
