Depeche was similar to Wham, but I never became familiar with their lead singer; Dave Gahan.
They were known for their sophistication of lyrics and melody. Their elegance in presentation, suited for dance clubs and expensive Raves. Sort of a larger, more impersonal version of Tears For Fears. Although Tear For Fears charted quite a few big hits. Far more than Depeche.
This was just before Music Videos became a thing. They were more an ever-changing ensemble type group, such as today’s “PussyCat Dolls”.

I think Depeche Mode was way better than Wham or Tears For Fears.
These guys are about as gay as gay can be, but exceptionally good music, some of the best 80’s there ever was.
My favorite Depeche Mode song - Stripped

My favorite DM song is still People are People. My other favorite was Blasphemous Rumours...until I paid attention to the lyrics; it pained me to have to stop listening to the song.
Great band overall!
You just took me back to high school! Great song.
Stripped is also kind of ah... what exactly do they mean by let me see you stripped down to the “bone”? That seems like it could be taken a couple of ways depending on how one looks at things.
But yeah, those guys are not kosher. They are uh, ahem, that way.
Great music though. I went to clubs in the 80’s, I danced with babes to their music, had some good times, love Depeche Mode.
