His new series has been greeted as a glorious comeback after an ignominious exit from the BBC.
But Jeremy Clarksons show The Grand Tour has brought with it the familiar whiff of controversy thanks to a tasteless joke about ebola.
The resemblance of a racetrack in his Amazon Prime series to a magnified image of the virus led Clarkson to dub it the Eboladrome.
And the remark brought an immediate backlash from viewers startled by the former Top Gear stars apparent insensitivity over a disease that killed 30,000 in West Africa two years ago.

“Lighten up Francis.” - Uncle Hulka
Insensitivity.
Wait until he starts tooling on Mexico again.
Glad to see the “boys” back - even if the diss American cars. And it does resemble the virus.
Doing a speed run in an Ariel Atom without a windscreen isn’t the brightest idea, even if it is quite literally a blast. He could’ve lost a tooth if a windblown beetle had popped him in that flapping maw, lol.
Amen to all of the above - I thought the intro scene with the red, white and blue Shelby Mustangs was done exceptionally well. It made me grin like a little kid; I'm looking forward to more of their antics to lighten my mood in the future. The "Ebola" reference was in keeping with the other long list of dangers attributed to the new track - somehow the PC scolds missed the references to electrocution or being blown up by old, wartime ordnance - go figure. I guess those threats don't primarily impact "minorities".
One of Trump’s first executive orders should be to institutionalize Americans who lack a sense of humor. What a fantastic country we would have after that simple little step.
LOL!
The guys are back!
Jezzer, Hammond and May!
Great first show!
It’s like being around your old high school buddies only they’re driving supercars!
BBC now stands for “By! By! Chumps!”

With a few exceptions our cars deserve to be dissed as vanilla plastic-mobiles. A lot of them bear as much resemblance to real cars as Taco Bell does to Mexican cuisine. Most European cars may be garage queens, but they tend to have style and in some cases rock solid engineering. I wouldn’t want to take a Chevy Malibu on the Autobahn or M1 at 120 mph. A Mercedes? It feels like you’re doing 60.
The Grand Tour is Top Gear in 4k.
Really stunning visuals for first show and of preview shows.
The 3 guys make the show plus the camera work.
Get a grip people, he's a comedian. I thought it was hilarious!
What you think everyone’s driving a Lamborghini in Europe?
If you noticed, he lost that challenge at the end. Earlier this year his former house was demolished by explosives. Guess we now know why and what to expect in the next episode.
