Word For The Day, Tuesday November 22, 2016
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
duende [dwen-de; English doo-en-dey]
-n
1. Spanish. a goblin; demon; spirit.
2. charm; magnetism..
[Spanish: spirit]
Come on
The cankled democrat duende was demonstrably denied.
The evil duende that infested hillary’s brain sometimes leaked out of her eyeballs.
Duenwe get a new president and a new attitude in Washington, all of the old powers-that-used-to-be in Washington are gonna wonder duende their influence went with the used-to-be-powers-that-aren’t-anymore.
Hillary, ghastly duende
Morality venal and bendy
Donald came, saved the day
Kept this monster away
Put an end to the taxy and spendy
Who is Peter Pan sleeping with?
Duh! Wendy!
I have a question. my phone is synced to my highlander with Bluetooth. Every time I turn the car on my music starts playing from my phone. how do I stop that from happening? also, if I want to use wayz for directions [I vary between using the car navigation to using wayz app on the phone] what do I need to do to make sure it gives audible directions and plays over the car’s sound system? I can’t figure any of this out. This AM, I was pretty sure I’d left my phone in the house but when I turned the car on my music started playing which made me think the phone was in the car, but no, I went into the house and it was there on the stairs where I’d left it. I do not understand!
“tax and spendy”
That’s awesome.

For the first part, I don’t know. It must be defaulting to playing music from your Bluetooth device. There’s probably a way to change this. My phone connects to my car radio, but doesn’t change the mode to play music automatically.

Try your question at this, or another, online enthusiast forum. Someone may know how your particular system works. Be sure to be specific about model year, trim level, that you have the navigation package, etc.
As for how to make sure your phone driving directions always are audible, this is a thing about Bluetooth. Apparently there are 2 channels, one for “audio” and one for “phone.”
This ticks me off about my car. Or maybe the phone. They should work together better.
If the phone/app is giving directions audibly on the “phone” channel, the radio will pick it up like it’s an incoming call. This will usually interrupt whatever is playing.
If the phone/app is giving directions on the “audio” channel, then your car radio will only play it if you are listening to Bluetooth music/podcast/etc. from your phone.
Short answer: you have to be listening to the “Bluetooth” source on your car radio for the phone directions to interrupt.
Now, there is no way that your music on your phone was playing in your car when your phone was in the house. So either you were mistaken about the source of the music, your radio unbeknownst to you is storing your music on its own memory (my car has internal memory for about 150 songs), or you have a ghost.
I’m telling you it was! the song was cued up and visible on the phone when I went in to get it, same as was playing in the car. it has to be via the wifi? I am wifi connected in the driveway to our home network.
it was particularly irksome when I drove to philly by myself last Thursday PM. It was dark, rush hour traffic and the damn phone is silent and requiring me to look down at it to see the navigation. It was fine obv on the beltway and on 95N but I knew I needed to have it figured out by the time I reached philly to navigate to center city. totally baffles me. it just might be worth me going to the dealership from which we lease, to have them run me through how the phone interacts with the damn car. Doesn’t matter if it’s hooked to the USB to charge or just loose in my purse the damn music starts blaring. I never listen to music in the car it’s always foxnews on xm, or a game either on the local channel or one of the NHL channels.
When I need to navigate (delivering hoagies, mostly) I have to turn the phone Bluetooth off. Or listen to a podcast from the phone.
The duende known as Hillary
May get complacent and sleep
Lulled into thinking it’s over
And she’s not in s*** so deep
By Trump’s remarks on healing
Which are a good way to stall-
Once in office, hands washed
And let others engineer her fall
A brand new justice department
Without Loretta and all the rest
To look at the Clinton foundation
Would be honest and look the best...
