Calexit: Leftists File Papers to Secede, Form New Confederacy(bye felicia)

A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum — “Calexit” — on the 2018 ballot.

The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:

A “yes” vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if “California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.”

Another “yes” vote would require the governor of the newly minted “Republic of California” to apply to the United Nations for membership.

Call me “Copperhead”.

That's appropriate. Your kind has sought the destruction of the United States since at least 1861.

Rather than do Secession then here is what should happen. Perhaps this should be on a separate thread.

1. We need a pilot program where 6 large States are selected to be like Nebraska and Maine in giving the winner of each congressional district an electoral vote and the winner of the state two. The six states should be California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Washington. If the pilot program works out well for two decades or 5 presidential elections then we expand it to the rest of the states.

2. States (and/or congressional districts) that don’t have adequate voter id laws to verify photo id and other biometrics (such as fingerprints) while protecting ballot secrecy shall not have their results certified and included for the Presidential election.

Just said the same. We keep San Diego, Camp Pendleton , and other military bases in the south there. They can have the rest of the socialist cess pit.

I’m pretty sure they don’t have a choice. They may resist accepting them if they are truly valueless since that is a net loss to the tax base.

But if they are undeveloped due to land use restrictions and city regulations, don’t be surprised if suddenly those restrictions evaporate and the city sells the lots to their crony developer du jour.

But owning property that has no value to you and produces no income is not an asset, it’s a liability. Gifting it for tax purposes is an excellent idea, far better than paying taxes in perpetuity in the vain hope that city government would buy a vowel, get a clue and change the rules in your favor.

Let them pursue it.

As long as they are occupying their tiny little brains tilting at this windmill they’ll have less time to cause real trouble.

“Companies would start to choose Eureka to avoid Portland & Seattle where the long shore unions are in control.”

You really think ‘Jefferson’ will not have ILWU ports? These ports will be more expensive by the sheer increased regulations. It’s not going to be South Korea!

BTW, I was a longshoreman (ILWB, #37) for five years.

More than a double bonus, if this succeeds it will establish a precedent by which other states could secede. This in turn would force DC to either respect states’ rights or else lose the country.

I’m really hoping they win!

My uncle's in laws are 5th generation Californians living around Marin. They always thought that if Civil War II breaks out it will start in CA with Fresno being their equivalent of Ft Sumpter.

the liberals see this, the liberal and hard core , fringe left see this. Instead of putting two and two together, they instead demand tat their own area be taken over. OK s it is taken over, do they honestly think they will be awarded the respect they a have been giving to these illegals and Mexicans?

It just shows you how stupid the left are.

Wasn’t there a secession movement by the right, also?

http://www.stateofjefferson.com/

The "State of Jefferson" is a dream that is based upon perceived injustice and the typical American spirit of independence. Its seeds began in California and Oregon Territory around 1850 and the movement reached its zenith in December 1941. However, the state of mind that led to the various incidents related here did not die in 1941 but can still be found today.

The idea of an independent entity made up Northern California and/or Southern Oregon counties has appealed to residents of this area for years. The names proposed have not always been the same, but the basic perception of indifference and neglect from Sacramento and Salem is still with us today.

There is some property developer who as asked to buy them (sort of like the We Buy Ugly Houses people). I have no idea what they would pay, but my cousins and aunt who are in real estate and building in the area assures me that they are undevelopable. The contiguous lots are tiny, not on good ground, no water, or utilities, and none of that is about to change. In addition Santa Cruz County has imposed development rules that disallow new development unless you “win” in a lottery. And the square footage does not meet the county minimum. Basic permits are costing north of $200,000 these days before you even break ground.

My parents bought these lots more than 60 years ago as a site for possibly building a cabin, or retirement home. They cost me somewhat less than $400 per year in taxes, but I’m tired of paying it. The bigger liability is future road repairs and fire protection for the few neighbors that do live there.
