U.S. marshals explain why they grabbed Ammon Bundy's lawyer (OREGON STANDOFF-TASER ATTACK)

A judge in Washington has been assigned to handle the citation against Ammon Bundy's lawyer Marcus Mumford, who was accused of failing to follow a federal officers direction....

Moments after a jury returned not guilty verdicts for Bundy and six co-defendants on Oct. 27 in the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Mumford stood before U.S. District Judge Anna J. Brown and argued that his client should be released from custody immediately.

..U.S. marshals slowly moved in and surrounded Mumford at his defense table. The judge directed them to move back, but moments later the marshals grabbed Mumford, tackled him and stunned him with a Taser gun....

In a probable cause statement filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland, the marshals give their explanation of why they took the actions they did, though the statement makes no mention that a marshal used a stun gun.....

According to an account written by Colin M. Fawcett of the U.S. Marshals Service, Mumford grew "increasingly agitated" after learning that Bundy wouldn't be released from custody.

"As Marshals moved forward to escort Bundy out of the courtroom, Mumford positioned his body so as to block the Marshals from taking Bundy into custody and began yelling in protest," Fawcett wrote.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Erik Helsing instructed Mumford to "lower his voice and stand down".......Mumford became even more agitated "flailing his arms and raising his voice even louder".....

Mumford took a particular stance that in Fawcett's "experience as a police officer and combat veteran" signaled that the attorney was "preparing for a combative and physical altercation".....

..Tuesday night, Mumford said the marshals now are "just making up facts." He said the marshals admitted to his staff after he was taken into custody on Oct. 27 "that they didn't have any custody orders" for Bundy.......

The U.S. Marshals are justifying their tackling and tasing of Ammon Bundy's lawyer moments after the seven defendants in the Oregon Standoff Trial were acquitted.

Mumford was arguing that the federal government needed to show him the documentation it did not have in the courtroom regarding detention of Ammon Bundy on the Nevada charges.

They felt threatened is their argument for their actions which will be the argument they give on January 6th when a federal judge from Washington state comes to Portland for a January 6th hearing.

They felt they were justified in telling Mumford to shut up in the courtroom and when he wouldn't, defined his behavior as threatening.

This guy Fawcett of the Marshals Service used the notion of being a veteran and police officer to justify the Gestapo tactics used in that courtroom.

Disgusting......

In the USA....OMG.....

This shows that the armies for the oppression of the American people are already assembled and ready. No, I’m certainly not referring to soldiers like the young man I talked to yesterday who lost his leg in Afghanistan or the policeman you most often come across. They have honor in large measure by wanting to do what’s right. The ones I worry about are the ones in it for the power.

All 5’ 6” of him against 6 marshals.

The U.S. Wussies must’ve really felt threatened.

combat veteran

That should be enough to get the federal cops the full support of the 'veterans entitlement' crew here at FR.

From your keyboard to God’s smart phone.

I hope what you envision becomes a reality, but if it doesn’t I will not be silent about things.

We have many people sitting in prisons out West right now including Jerry DeLemus, who co-chaired Veterans for Trump during the New Hampshire Primary.

The Justice Department needs to mean “Justice” again.

Correct.

The us marshalls were pissed bc the lawyer whipped their ass in the courtroom.

So, like the thugs they are, they attacked him.

I support honoring folks like veterans and I don’t wish law enforcement ill.

But we can’t become a place like “Animal Farm” where the slogan about equality in that Stalinist-Communist fantasy was that ‘some are more equal than others’.

Laws that have been passed declaring that crimes against law enforcement officers are worse or deserve more punishment tread into that territory.

Clearly contempt of court and the Judge should have summarily sentenced the offending parties to immediate incarceration.

In many tangible ways, we have become the old USSR I was taught about in public school in the 1960’s.

As a veteran and former LEO their actions, if accurately described, represents everything I fought against......

The judge should issue warrants for their arrest for contempt of court....as a starter....

The judge should have held the officers in contempt.

She was stunned by everything and essentially overruled by the marshals actions and her own inability to control the situation.

Once the marshals went ballistic, she roughly ordered the courtroom cleared immediately, so roughly the “OregonLive” reporter left her raincoat behind.

The fewer witnesses, the better.....
