Exactly! Unless you buy a pit bull from a show breeder who breeds for temperament you WILL have a dog with violent/fighting ancestry. The puppy you get from a private seller likely has great-great grandparents still alive and breeding. It could have fighting dogs five generations back and you wouldn't know it. Even two generations-bred at 1 year, how many descendants can a violent fighting dog have in a mere five years? No way of knowing, and BYB surely aren't going to be honest about pedigree.

My point is-how many breeds of dog are there, hundreds? Why would anyone CHOOSE a breed with any question of violent temperament? Why a pit instead of a cocker spaniel, or a labradoodle? If they are honest, it is the scary, intimidating,'I can control a dangerous dog' factor that makes the decision. These people CHOSE a powerful,can-kill-you dog and that is what they got. When the ability to maul and kill others becomes the ability to maul and kill YOU or your family it's not surprising-or pitiable. Choose to love a poodle, not a predator. Why add danger,uncertainty and social rejection when you want a pet?
