Lol! They've actually been doing that...climbing up and down the electrical cords to my desktop. They're desperately looking for food.

I have a Seba Inu dog that catches squirrels trying to get into the bird feeders. He has caught 4 recently.
A Seba is a little Japanese dog that looks like a red fox.

One of my grandsons was about 4 years old and eating a sandwich on a beach here in MA———a seagull swooped and grabbed it right out of his hand.

Here in New York City, in Central Park, there's a pond called Turtle Pond which has a lawn area alongside it for picnicers and sunbathers. Everyday around sunset the rats begin to come out. And on several occasions I've seen them crawling around near and even on people's blankets--without them noticing! When I inform them of the situation they usually just look at me with a stupid look on their faces and go on chatting among themselves. Then of course NYC is dopey Lib country.

I can honestly say that if a rat was heading towards me while I was relaxing in a park I would be a living example of “Feet, don’t fail me now”.

The rats seem to be smarther than many of the New Yorkers.

...obviously a completely different situation than with your little 4-year-old grandson and a bird swooping down from the sky. These people were full grown adults, and the rats were right there, although a bit dark out at that time, in plain sight crawling around. Wasn’t trying to equate the two at all. :)

“Squirrels laugh at dogs.”

My daughter’s dog caught one——looked at me-——shook his head rapidly, breaking the squirrel’s neck——put it on the ground-—and walked away.

Needless to say,I was stunned.

Ground up glass in peanut butter. It’s the classic solution for groundhogs.

I guess that works for you, but no, that's not it.
