No, it's not. Apple pays its upper management team on performance criteria of the entire company, not on a salary basis. No salaries were "cut", in fact some including Tim Cook's were increased, but the percentage of incentive performance pay just did not equal the same level as the previous year. In addition, restricted stock grants were issued just last fall to incentive the FUTURE performance of Apple. The headline IS "fake news," from a source known to distort AAPL news in that it is distorting these facts of the total compensation packages.
That rumor is what's delusional. Apple just released NEW MacBook Pro models last quarter. They are making money on them hand-over-fist! Apple is not going to jettison the MacBook Pro!
There is no such thing as "a cult of Apple" that keeps the world's most valuable company, largest market cap, and most valuable brand in the world, "from hurting," as you claim. Apple has over 1.1 BILLION iOS devices in use throughout the world, sells 250 million plus such iOS devices annually, and an additional 100 million Macs operating around the world. The purchasers and users of those 1.2 BILLION Apple products cannot be, by any stretch of your hyperbole, be called a "cult" merely because you don't use Apple products and you think it sounds cute to smear Apple users with that epithet because they didn't opt to use the hardware YOU chose!
Making such a ridiculous claim says more about you than than Apple users, who generally know BOTH Windows and Mac computers.
My Mac Pro is heading towards being out of my three-year Apple Care warranty period, and I’d like to get another, but no way in Hell am I paying for three-year old technology!
They haven’t even bumped up the chip specs, let alone upgraded anything else.
It really alarms me, that they may be getting rid of their Pro desktops! I may find myself moving to Win7 and an HP or Lenovo workstations.
And I’ve been a Mac user for almost thirty years!

A "pay cut" is a cut in pay. That's different from a "salary cut". I retired from a company with a similar incentive package as apple - salary, bonuses, and stock options. When my total compensation dropped from one year to the next, even when no fault of my own, I suffered a "pay cut". I had less money to spend, even though my salary stayed the same or even increased. That's life.

Actually, in the 90s having a cult saved Apple from extinction. Apple was releasing new models of crap and people were buying them. When I mean crap, they were inferior pieces of hardware and software. But, these people kept Apple afloat - though barely. They were close to going under/being acquired.
I posted in the iPhone thread, but for Apple to innovate, Jony Ive must go. He is a designer but now has too much influence over the whole product landscape.
For those who’ve met him (I assume someone like Swordmaker has met him), you will agree he is a sharp guy, but there is a huge disconnect between the customer and how they use technology or it’s usefulness. Think about the Apple watch. I was shown working prototypes and dissed them for a number of good reasons but he chuckled and told me “wait and see.” HA!
He has done a lot of good things when pared on an equal basis with engineering, but he’s had too much influence for quite awhile. Time to retire, Jony.

There is a correlation, both had/have huge egos and believe their own BS. Thanks for bringing up Monty. :)
That strategy you propose would take Apple back to the trash heap that they fell to LAST time they tried that strategy. Selling OS licenses is not where its at any longer. Apple’s profits come from their generally high-quality hardware that commands premium prices (with the largest profit margins in the industry). The OS is the glue that binds it all together.
