Many sodas,Coke and Pepsi in particular contain phosphoric acid, the main ingredient in naval jelly. Before I had bodywork done on my 64 I used the stuff to control the rust in the trunk and rocker panels. A common problem with Chevys from those years. Also, phosphoric can be used to treat aluminum prior to painting. One reason I rarely drink soda anymore.

I had a really old car for a while. My mechanic used to remove the rust from the calipers by soaking them in soda. Coca Cola, I think.
