Peter Capaldi has revealed that he will leave Doctor Who by the end of the year. The 58-year-old actor was the 12th actor to play the iconic role, having landed the coveted spot on the long-running series after Matt Smiths departure in June 2013. He made the announcement whilst speaking to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 on Monday, as he revealed that it was 'time to move on' from the BBC series.

Hopefully the BBC won't cave to the Social Justice Warriors demand for a female doctor.

The next doctor shall be a transgendered bisexual hermaphrodite.

Heck, if I went from Jenna Coleman as a companion to some insolent golliwog, I would quit, too.

Why not? The doctor is a fictional character who gets the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation as old doctors die or go away. There is no reason a new Time Lord cannot be a woman.

I liked him, and he would have been fantastic, had he been better served by the writers and the showrunner. I’m not a fan of Moffet running Who. At least we’ll have a fresh start following this final season.

This was my less favorite. He really just felt awkward from day one.
But the BBC will do something stupid to win back the SJW fans they lost with this doctor. Bank on that.

It has already happened in season 9. The Doctor is try to escape another Time Lord and after confirming the he has regenerations left, he shoots the time Lord and he regenerates into a female.

The Doctor was definitely at the top of his game with Jenna Coleman!

If the new Who is a muslim on what time basis would he pray 5 times a day? Would he be able to pinpoint where Mecca is from the out reaches of time and space? Would he make the Hadj?

I don’t want a female doctor either. Although Missy was a very good villain, I had trouble associating her with the Master. I will miss Capaldi. My husband cosplays him at Comicon and other occasions. On another thread, someone suggested Hugh Laurie for the new Doctor. My choice would be someone older but not ancient, out of the limelight long enough to be believable in the character, and not a pretty boy catering to the little teenage fan girls that rely on their hormones to tell them what is good.

He never really seemed to fit the role.
During his first season, he wandered around like someone in a trance with the Coleman character berating him and barking out orders. [Never did care for her in the role of companion.]
Capaldi should have stayed with his role in The Musketeers. It did seem to go downhill after the first season and season 3 will be its final season — which is okay by since since I cancelled the BBC-StarTrek:TNG-All-The-Time-America tier on my cable.
