When is the Dept. of Education being shut down?

Posted on 03/15/2017 9:04:51 AM PDT by RobertoinAL

I ordered my grandson's Florida math books (authors Houghton, Mifflin, Harcourt), and found they are ALL Common Core. Having taught math, algebra, and trig, I was scratching my head as to why they made math so hard. I'm sure the scientists, mathematicians, and engineers at NASA weren't taught CC, and they put us on the moon. When will we end the Department of Education? The communists are laughing their butts off at the US, since they control education in our country. The youth are stupid for a reason!!

NEVER! Sorry, the joke is on you.

As long as Fed.gov can keep printing money and creating huge debt - every social engineering scheme loved by our our unchanging, constant, progressive, social-engineering deep- state and the uniparty will continue.

Grandson in 2nd grade used to love school. CC math is terrible. They make it harder than it should be. He now hates school. Praying President Trump ends this nightmare.

What is your status?

Are you homeschooling using a public network which forces you to purchase their texts?

I struggled with math until I want to university. The instructor was an engineer who taught a couple of intro classes. One the first day, he told us to forget what we learned and do it his way.

His way was crystal clear and absolutely understandable. I understood at that moment high school teachers who had little ability to do math were winging it from a handbook, not all certainly, but definitely those who taught at my high.

Common Core is just another fubar.

Don’t worry, we’ll just import engineers from India

get your grandson on the above website, he’ll fall in love with math or the other subjects offered and will be able to read while the rest of the class is being stupefied because he’ll be 3 grades advanced.

17 years ago my daughter’s Algebra book had “rain forest” problems to solve. I tried to help her but the problems had to be solved in a convoluted manner of which I could not use the simpler methods I was taught. The work had to be shown so my method would not work. I think they designed it that way specifically so the parent could not help.

I tutor K-8/ math and writing after homeschooling our son through trig. I tell ALL my parents - get the Spectrum Math series, by grade (Amazon, paper workbooks). It is ‘math the way it is supposed to be/ the way you learned it.’ You will do your kids/ grandkids a tremendous favor. Give them just enough CC math to pass the tests, but insist they learn the regulation calculations. They were good enough for Euclid, they’ll be fine for this generation.

It is a disgrace what CC has set in. In the district we serve (among others), the parents are up in arms; the kids are fried/ confused; the teachers do not understand it either. Some of the teachers give out worksheets of ‘regulation math’ and skip the CC altogether.

Common Core was designed by Marxists to destroy Reason and Logic in children so they remain ignorant and dumb for life. It also hyper-sexualizes the children, so they have their sexual identity formation warped at crucial ages which will destroy future flourishing relationships.

It is doing EXACTLY what the Marxists wanted. Only Classical Christian curricula (with the Socratic Method, Aristotelian Logic, and Euclid’s proofs give the children the TOOLS to THINK for themselves (agency). The Bible is the best for Wisdom-—the ability to discern Good and Evil and Reality.

CC is brainwashing—operant conditioning so confusion and chaos is all they know (tribal mindsets) since they will have NO ABILTY to integrate their brain and think for self or abstract “thinking”.

That was my homeschool material. Spectrum workbooks are great! Everything else I had was old (textbooks in math and every other subject). I don't consider myself a math-friendly person (though I use it a lot professionally), yet Spectrum made it fun. Past the primary grades I used a variety of books, none published later than 1968.

It’s too bad Yeb Bush was not elected president. He likes Common Core.

No, Mrs.Z, I’m not home schooling; just wanted to work with him this summer. He’ll be in the 5th grade next year, so I’m not sure of his proficiency. I always told my students “Math is not a spectator sport”, hoping they would realize that the more problems you work, the better your understanding and reasoning skills will be. After looking at the CC math books, it seems that reasoning flies out the window. Maybe I’m just old and set in my ways!
