For some odd reason the song is what I imagine George Soros used to sing to Barack Obama.

Catchy poppish simple lyrics that bore into your brain.
The next thing you know you are in a grocery store singing along with the music playing that very song on loud speaker. And you didn’t even know you knew the words.
What?

One of the few songs I remember from the 80s. Not that I liked it a lot, I just recall hearing it often back then.

When I remembered this in my head, I thought it was a song done by Boy George. The style is similar to many acts of that time, as with Pet Shop Boys or Thompson Twins. A jumpy Glee Club mood with a good opening hook, and accompanied by a strong bass beat. This song may have been a ‘B Side’ for a record by the B52’s. Most their music was more aggressive, showy and less mellow.

I heard a spoof version of this song years ago that stuck with me, and now that’s all I can think about when I hear it. It was for Halloween. “Won’t you haunt me baby, won’t you haunt me, booooo.” No idea who did it, it’s not online anywhere that I’ve ever been able to find.

I was still listening to music radio a lot back when this song was big. Now it’s one of those songs that whenever I hear it I immediately flashback to that period. My wife and I were dating at that time. I never really liked the song but it was catchy and waaaaay over played on radio so it’s one of those things that sparks memories. I like it much better now since it brings back so many good memories.

The main thing I remember from this song was the video — the guys dressed up as girls.

I’d never listen to more than a minute of it, so I was surprised in seeing the youtube video that the group apparently had a female singer - or is that a guy in drag, too?

Not on my radar.

I do recall a song by the Undertones called “My Perfect Cousin”, about a kid whose cousin was smart, popular and spoiled which went:

“His mother bought him a synthesizer
Got the Human League into advise her”.

They had women in the group but this was back in the early to mid 80s when Boy George and “gender bending” rock acts where a fad. So the guys in the group sometimes dressed to look like girls. I guess some things never change.

Used to live near the lead singer. Used to drive around in a dented, black Jag.

Heh, yer welcome. The flip side is now I feel geezerish since my first date year brings to mind tunes like this:

Yeah, I remember the guys wearing heavy eye makeup in those 80s bands. But Alice Cooper, Bowie. Jagger, the New York Dolls and such beat them all to the punch in the early 70s.
