They should only be used in the singular when referring to schizophrenics.
Non-binary persons should be called “it”.

THEY want to use ‘they’ so as not to identify who ‘they’ are, so the lies cannot be traced back to ‘THEM’.

The angle and rate of our society’s descent are increasingly rapidly. The end will come suddenly.

It always bothers me when people use “they” to replace “he or she”. It’s been in use for a very long time.
I guess it’s now officially acceptable. I still don’t like it.

They is OK when describing a single person who’s not binary?
Getting so sick and tired of seeing this binary word. It is getting shoveled into every nook and cranny of the blogosphere (another term I detest); just about every opinion piece (I’ve read it three times already this morning) It’s made its way into the eletist language of right and left having emigrated from computer science and mathematics. Keep it there.

Just a logical follow-on from the now gender-neutral “guys.”
To: NoKoolAidforMe
Can we go with Anglo-Saxon orthography too? At least that would make more sense than a “singular they”.

And here I always thought when talking about a group of people, “They” was used to point out that single group. I am so glad the Ivory Tower Elites have set the world straight. lol

This is not a political thing.
“They” works, linguistically when speaking of a single person for whom, nothing in the context identifies THEM other than they are a person. When the information IS NOT gender specific, but we are speaking of a single person, “they” works.
Someone saw the light turn green, and then THEY crossed the street.
The use of “they” in the singular works, IN CERTAIN CONTEXTS.
