I’ve always been a little skeptical of Apologetic’s converting someone. We should study apologetic’s to be able to answer skeptics, but I don’t think you can be “talked into” faith in God. What works every time however, is an encounter with a supernatural being in your life. Information can fill your mind to shape what you think, but a heart change will change your mind in a millisecond. I thought I believed in God until I was 43 years old. Then my mother in law, who was dying of a terminal disease, was healed in front of me instantly with a small prayer. No matter what I thought in the past, I had to look further into what I saw. I just knew “ABOUT” Jesus, I didn’t KNOW Him. Many pew sitters think they are doing just fine, but can’t explain why they became a believer. Maybe pressure as a child, maybe drawn by the love, maybe it made the most sense to them at the time. Believing in God because you lost an argument to a knowledgeable Christian is not usually a strong foundation for the type of belief it takes to sacrifice your life for Him. In the Last days, we might be asked to denounce Jesus and take a mark by a man just so we can live our life here on earth. The truth is we are asked to lay down our life here every day for the cause of Christ, but we have few takers. If 80% of people polled say they are Christian in America, yet 60% believe abortion is OK, then someone is lying. We now have pastors in mainline churches performing gay weddings. Someone is lying. We have people that put their denomination above love of the brethren. We might have 100 members in my church, but when no more than 30 show up consistently, then we know what their priorities are. Hard times will come, the Scriptures are clear. How many of these “Christians” will turn and their lukewarm love will grow cold? Making up your mind due to an argument made in a book is not the same as “knowing in your knower” that what you believe is true because you have experienced His presence, having Him speak to you, and watching a miracle unfold before your eyes.

I have found CS Lewis’s Mere Christianity to be a top notch apologetic and a wonderful witnessing tool. So is The Case for Christ by Strobel. I thing God reaches people in different ways and all tools in the toolbox should be used when attempting to reach lost or skeptical friends and family
