How is this an imbalance or a shortage of men?

Like the prior poster said, it assumes women won’t marry down in terms of career/income/education. My whole life I’ve been told women are just as capable as men. The women are living that out and becoming doctors and lawyers. And yet somehow the women’s success means more and more men are screwing up and not marriageable. Color me confused.
