Attendance on the fall league went up the year Michael Jordan took the year off from basketball. Good business decision to put him amongst the higher prospects even though he didn’t belong there. He wasn’t that good at age 33. Business will always make that call leaving a deserving prospect short changed. Remember HIV positive-Magic being an all star AFTER he retired. A marketing or political statement?
The minor leagues have a high proportion of players that scouts know won’t be major league players. No prospect is edged out by a public relations player.
Fact is, unless a player is drafted in the first round of the MLB draft, the odds are against him getting to the majors at all. Even prospects. Even for top prospects, many will be given a shot at the majors only because the organization has a lot invested and doesn’t want second-guessers, not because the organization believes he will make it as even a bench player.
