I had two mint julips today and was feeling no pain. I thought it must have been the mint.
The 2017 Woodford Reserve $1,000 mint julep recipe for the Kentucky Derby:
Fresh mint leaves
1.5 ounces Woodford Reserve bourbon
1/2 ounce simple sugar
1/2 ounce elderflower liqueur
1/4 ounce Pimms
Dash of Earl Grey bitters
Crushed ice
Scrub the inside of a julep cup with two mint leaves and drop them inside. Add the bourbon, sugar, liqueurs and bitters and pack the cup with crushed ice. Stir. Top the cup with additional ice and add a sprig of mint as a garnish. Morris also sprinkled some dried cornflower blossoms on top and added a sprig of babys breath to create a more photogenic drink.
LOL, I had never had a mint julep in my life. I thought I would like to try one, so I watched, and it was basically crush some mint, and fill the glass with bourbon!!!!
I guess it made me think of the first time I had a Campari and Soda. They looked so refreshing, and when I drank it, I nearly spit it out!
As for the bourbon, well, I have never developed a taste for that kind of liquor, but I sure like the effect!
You forgot what made that drink an expensive drink, the gold cup.
